MATERIALS NEEDED:

  • 4.0 mm crochet hook

  • Tan yarn

  • Dark blue yarn

  • Stuffing

  • Two safety eyes

  • Scissors

  • That's all!

ABBREVIATIONS:

  • ch (chain stitch)

  • sc (single crochet

  • dec (decrease)

  • inc (increase)

  • Let's get started!

HEAD:

  • Use tan yarn for this part

  • R1 - MG with 6 sc in it

  • R2 - all sc

  • R3 through R5 - alternate between inc and sc

  • R6 - all sc

  • R7 - alternate between sc and inc

  • R8 - all sc

  • Insert your safety eyes in between R5 and R6

  • Tie off yarn and... you're done with the hedgehog head!

  • Let's move on to the body

BODY:

  • Use blue yarn for this part

  • Attach the yarn onto the head of the hedgehog

  • R1 through R5 - all sc

  • R6 - Follow this pattern: sc, sc, dec. sc, sc, dec...

  • This is the time to stuff the head and body! Make sure to put enough in.

  • R7 and on - all dec until closed

  • Tie off your yarn.

PRICKLES:

  • Now, this is the hardest part, so listen carefully!

  • Attach the blue yarn to the top of the hedgehog's body using slst and make 5 ch as shown in the images below.

  • Now attach the 5 ch to the next stitch using slst

  • Hooray! You have made your first prickle!

  • Repeat this process to make the rest of the prickles, covering all of the body except for the belly

  • (I had to use red for the back because I ran out of blue!)

FOR THE PAWS:

  • R1 - Make a MG with 6 sc in it

  • R2 - all sc

  • R3 - crochet the paw onto the body using slst

  • Repeat these steps to make the other paw

FINISHING TOUCH!

  • Use a black marker to draw a nose onto your hedgehog.

  • Hooray! You are done making the Holiday Hedgehog!
